ABOUT US
The “Circolo Italiano” was founded in the early 1970s, with the aim of bringing together adult students of Italian to exchange experiences of Italian culture. The meetings lasted about 2 hours and were usually conducted in English!
Nowadays the format is different. After registering, members spend some time speaking Italian according to level of proficiency. This is followed by a talk on some aspect of Italian culture and is usually in Italian. The speakers are frequently members, but we also invite outside speakers and the topics have been wide-ranging. The talk is usually followed by a question/comment and answer session - and after that a communicative activity for all to join in. Finally lunch, which consists of minestrone (made by members), bread and cheese - and a glass of wine: Italian of course! The membership stands at about 40 at present.
